13th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health

13th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health: "Scholarships

(Referred by Beatriz Champagne)
The conference organizers recognize the importance of providing support to maximize the number of individuals from low- and middle-income countries who participate in the World Conference on Tobacco OR Health. immediately following the UICC World Cancer Congress. A limited number of scholarships may be awarded to individuals who meet specific criteria to attend both conferences and further develop relationships and synergy between cancer control and tobacco control. Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis.

Scholarships provide support to an individual for some or all of the following costs:

* Round-trip, economy airfare from country of residence to Washington, D.C.
* Conference registration fee
* Accommodation in Washington, D.C. during the Conference"

The organizers of the 13th WCTOH are again offering a Fellows programme in conjunction with the 13th WCTOH Conference. The goal of the Fellows program is to enhance capacity and strengthen networks for tobacco control among rising practitioners and emerging leaders in low-and middle-income
countries. This program has been successfully offered at the previous two
World Tobacco Conferences.

Approximately 70 Fellowships will be awarded to diverse professional and organizational representation in low and middle income countries .

Below is information for distribution which provides a detailed description of the WCTOH Fellows program, eligibility requirements, and the application time table. The deadline to submit applications is November 21, 2005.

The Fellows program includes participation in a 2.5 day pre-conference training from July 9 - 11, registration for the WCTOH, round-trip economy air travel to Washington, DC, accomodation during both events, and a small per diem. Fellows are also eligible to apply for post-conference seed grants. The Fellows pre-conference training fosters practical application of skills and knowledge by assuring relevance of the strategies and
information to the Fellows' home environments. A key element of the
Fellows program is the structured opportunity for Fellows to learn about effective tobacco control strategies from each others' experiences.

Additional information on the program, and the application form, can be found on the following URL: http://www.13thwctoh.org/t-scholarships.php
